We met up at Eastgate park-and-ride around 8am. It was raining pretty hard down in Seattle, which didn’t feel very auspicious, but we linked up anyway. Peter offered to drive, so Lawrence and I piled in. We were up at Snoqualmie around 9, started at Summit East, and skinned up toward Silver Fir. Conditions were decent—light enough for powder early on—and honestly pretty smooth going.
There was about 15 inches at the base and probably close to 3 feet at the top. A couple creek crossings on the way up, but nothing too bad. Things changed around 2pm when it warmed up and the snow turned to full-on mashed potatoes. Going up was still fine, though.
Skiing down Silver Fir was tough. Black diamond, thin coverage, some sketchy jumps and variable runoff, pretty classic Silver Fir. Still, it was fun. I felt good on the skis and I’m stoked for the season. Definitely need to wax them though; they were sticking all the way down.
We dropped into the Silver Fir lodge and I broke out sardines, crackers, and eggs. New move: scrambling eggs in the microwave and throwing them in a bag with seasoning, actually solid. Peter and I went back up for another run and a traverse, but by then it was pure mashed potatoes. Perfect timing linking back up with Lawrence at the car. Peter and Lawrence grabbed pizza slices at the little grocery store (looked legit), I picked up a Police Smut book for my sister for Christmas, then headed home, rested, played some poker. Overall, a great day.
