First Winter Hike of the 2026 Winter Season: Lake Annette

Fun day hiking up to Lake Annette in Snoqualmie. Met up at the Eastgate park-and-ride in the morning, got there a little early, no problem, took a short nap. Broke my monthly fast and felt great heading into the day.
We made it to the Lake Annette trailhead around 10 a.m. Temps were chilly, probably mid-30s. I was layered up with a hat, insulated leggings, rain pants, fleece, and a rain jacket. In hindsight, I could’ve gone lighter, ended up shedding the rain jacket pretty quickly and hiking comfortably in the fleece. Once we reached the lake, I threw on a puffer.
We hit the lake right around noon. Lunch was simple but excellent: scrambled eggs with Lao Gan Ma chili crisp, a real banger, and some sardines.
The hike back down was relaxed, with plenty of conversation. I went off about old movies, A Streetcar Named Desire and That Hamilton Woman are both must-sees if you’ve never watched them. I’m also working through Once Upon a Time in the West, which is incredible.
We were back at the trailhead sometime mid-afternoon and decided to stop in Issaquah for Vietnamese cuisine at Jenny Pho. Solid spot, hit the mark perfectly after a cold hike.
On the drive back there was a brief moment of chaos on the highway. There was a man waving his arms and stepping out in front of cars. One of those strange, unsettling flashes that remind you that there’s is quite of chaos out there regardless of how serene or day to day lives can be. The event passed quickly, and we made it back safely.
All in all, an excellent day. Grateful for good company, good food, fresh air, and the simple luxury of getting outside. Definitely one of those days that leaves you feeling reset and thankful.
